We are wrapping up our winter season here at the restaurant.  Our lovely apprentice Rebecca Yaguda is off to the wild blue of Arizona to get training as a NOLS Instructor in back-packing and rock-climbing, and we are off to….France!  (We will get to Italy in the fall).    Deirdre will be utilizing her grant from The Vermont Farm Women’s Fund to study organic and biodynamic viticulture at L’Ecole du vin et des Terroirs in Burgundy (anything and everything you ever wanted to know about compost), and Caleb will be digging in the dirt with French gardeners.  We will be open Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3rd before closing down for our April break.  The restaurant will re-open in mid-May.  We’ll be accepting reservations for May and June when we return. 

la garagista/vineyard As the snow disappears, we have started to get back out in the vineyard.  All of the vines look good with tiny buds awaiting true spring.  (We are hopeful the unseasonably warm weather doesn’t play dastardly tricks on our unsuspecting vines….).   The next phase of planting is being planned with more Marquette and La Crescent arriving in early June.  We will also begin planting our first substantial vitis vines!  After a lot of research over the winter months, we will be receiving Geisenheim Reisling and Blaufrankisch from Inland Desert Nursery in Washington state.  In June, we will be coordinating a planting day and looking for volunteers.  Let us know if you’d like to join us for a day out in the vineyard and lunch.
